Safed's historic core is a fascinating area to explore, filled with ancient alleyways and a vibrant art scene, providing a glimpse into the city's historical and mystical past. You can wander down ancient winding, narrow cobblestone streets which are pedestrian-only, touch the stone walls of the Old City, and climb to the top of the Citadel- a vantage point of the entire city. On a clear day, from the Citadel it's possible to see as far as the Sea of Galilee.

The city's Jewish history dates back to the Temple period, and it grew significantly after the Spanish Expulsion of 1492.
