Old Gardens Synagogue is he oldest and one of the most significant historic synagogues in South Africa. The Gardens Shul, formally the Cape Town Hebrew Congregation (CTHC), also called the Great Synagogue, is a Modern Orthodox Jewish congregation and synagogue, Completed in 1863, it was the first synagogue in Sub-Saharan Africa. Established in 1841, it is recognized as the first congregation and the first synagogue built in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Gardens Shul is a protected national heritage site and is part of the South African Jewish Museum.
